Barcelona


Hola!

I'll tell you something about Barcelona:

Facts:
  • Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and the capitel of Catalonia
  • It is 120 km away from Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea, by the borderline of French. There, the people speak Catalan, which is a roman language with french parts.
  • The area of Barcelona is 100.4km².
  • It's the 11th-most populated municipality in the EU and the sixth-most populated urban area.
  • In Barcelona, there are 1.6 million inhabitants, 15,9% of them are foreigners.
  • The life expectancy for men is 77 and 84 for women.
  • Every year 4.5 million tourists visit Barcelona.
  • Barcelona is a global city which is known for it's importance in finance, commerce, media, arts and entertainment.
  • Many people come on the Mobile World Congress every year, occupying all the hotels
  • The harbor of Barcelona is the biggest in Spain and the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Barcelona has seven beaches. They are 4.5 km altogether, along the coastline.


Sights:
Barcelona is a town where you can visit a lot of various different sights. There are various styles by the houses, buildings , museums, garden and the various boroughs.
At the end of the 19th century, Barcelona developed it's own Art Nouveau.
The famous representative was Antoni Gautí. He planed many sights, which you can still visit today:

Casa Milà
(Casa means house in spanish)
The house was built from 1906 to 1910.
Because the house has an irregular front, people called it:"La Pedrera" (quarry)
The house is 26 meters high and has 6 floors.






Sagrada Famí

This is a roman-catholic basilica.
The building of the church started 1882 but it is still unfinished today.
The house is on the north side of the old town.
The church should be 170 meters high and should
have the highest steeple in the world.

In the year, the buildings works have 22 million in possession.
They
spend the rest of the money they don't need.





Monumento a Colón
On the "Plaza de Colón" stands the 60 meter high column. On top of the column stands Columbus, he points in the direction of "the new world" America.
Gaietà Buïgas built the column at 1888, it should reminiscent the return from Columbus, because he was received from the king Fernando and the queen Isabel. You can drive with a lift on the platform and see the harbor and the town.






Torre Agbar
It's a tower, 142 meters high, which is known as one of the two the highest buildings in Spain.
The available land is 39,0
00m². For the surface, they need 40 glosses and 4,500 windows, tihs is why the tower shimmers in different colours.
The tower is use by office and conference, on 33 floors.






Very recognized is the soccer club:FC Barcelona
The stadium can fit 98,600 people. It's the biggest stadium in Europe. FC Barcelona is the only soccer club, that is still in the first league (Primera División). It is the second most valuable club of the world.
It was founded at November 28, 1899.






The climate

Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate with mild and humid winters and warm dry summers.
The winter months are coldest with temperatures of 10°C in the city.July and August are the hottest months, averaging 24°C. The highest temperature was 38,6°C in the centre.
The rainy season are in spring and autumn and the dry season in winter and summer.




Typical food out of Catalonia

Allioli-->This is garlic,oil and yogurt. It is eaten together with for example: fish or meat
Escalivada--> Grilled and peeled vegetable which is colt and pickled.
Arròs amb conill-->Rice with rabbit. It's similar as Paella
Escudella-->noodel soup
Crema catalana(Crème brûélle)-->Pudding with caramel on the top.
Mel i mató-->This is a soft white cheese out of goats' milk, with honey.
